Crash

Ever since I read Beautiful Disaster, I've bouncing through the YA genre. They're all really good and I haven't been disappointed, but they tend to all run together. Every once in a blue moon, you find a book thats refreshing and new. That can take the 'same old story' and go outside of the box. For me, thats exactly what Crash did and I absolutely loved it.

After tragedy strikes the Larson family, Lucy's family has fallen apart. Her mother has checked out, her father has gone crazy and they've lost just about everything. They move into their lake house after the loss of their house and Lucy starts as a high school senior at Southpointe High. Lucy is ambitious and determined. Her eyes set on Julliard and then she meets Jude.

Hey Jude.

He's a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. He's got a rap sheet that could go on for days and he lives at a local boys' home.

Jude and Lucy know that they shouldn't be together, but at the same time, they can't stay away from each other.

This summary probably sounds generic and like the same old bad boy/good girl story, but trust me its not. I've left out alot because there are so many different twists and turns in this book and I didn't want to give anything away. This is my favorite kind of book. It keeps you guessing and you really don't expect whats coming. This is the perfect book to read on a rainy day. You cannot put it down. I read this in 1 day.

I'm really thrilled because Nicole Williams decided to write a sequel to this. The name of it is Clash and its coming out in Sept. I could not be more happier about this. I really felt that Jude and Lucy's story deserved another book.

Here is the Amazon link. If you ever take my advice on a book, please do for this one. Its such a great read.

Flat Out Love

Julie is a college freshman and moves to Boston for school. Her housing plans fall through, so she goes to stay with the Watkin's, an old friend of her mom's. She quickly discovers that something is really off with the family, so she sets off to fix their problems.

Do you have ever have a day where you just need a feel good book? This is the book that you need on those days. My friends often ask me for a book thats light and fun without having to think alot, this is the book I recommend. Every character in this book (even Julie) has issues, but you're rooting for them to pull through.

I kept seeing this book recommended by my favorite authors, so I decided to give it a try. This was a good, easy read. It was warm, funny, sad and mysterious all at the same time.

Providence Series

This review is for my girl, Sara, who loved this series as much as I did.

There is a method to my madness when it comes to finding a book. In the case of Providence, Amazon recommended Beautiful Disaster, which I loved so much that I wanted to read everything Jamie McGuire had written. I stumbled on Providence and I was not disappointed.

The Providence Series is an angels vs. demons story with a romance mixed in. If I were to ever write a book, this is the kind of book I would want to write. I know there are a lot of supernatural, immortal books out there, so that theme is overused, but Providence really stands out on its own.

Its the story of Nina and Jared. After the death of Nina's father, Jared comes into her life. She knows there is something different about Jared and once the truth comes out, the tie that binds them is much greater than she could ever imagine. He will protect her at all costs, but he is going to go against Heaven and Hell to save her.

Goosebumps, I tell you.

Requiem is the second installment for the Providence Series.

Creepy, right?

Requiem is more darker than Providence. It opens with Nina having these horrible nightmares involving her and Jared's fathers. Jared is on a mission to find a way to fix everything that is against them and find answers to all of the problems.

They discover the only way to survive is to fulfill their prophesy and pray that Heaven will step into save them.

I read alot of series. In fact, I hardly ever read a stand alone book. The middle books are always a filler. They keep the story going, while building the anticipation for the final book. Requiem does that perfectly. Its dark, mysterious, and it really leaves you wanting more going into the final book.

Which leads me to Eden.

Wow. I remember how I felt when I first saw this cover. Chills went down my spine, literally. Thats what good books should do to you.

I want you guys to read this book, so I'm not going to say much about the story. I will say this. Going into Eden, I had an idea of what would happen and I was right. Eden did everything I thought it would and I was happy with how it ended, but when I finished, I felt kind of empty.

By the time Eden came out, I had my friend, Sara, wrapped up into the series, as well, so we read Eden a day apart. We both agreed that it felt rushed and a little unbelievable. At the same time, I don't know that I would've changed much about how it ended.

Regardless of how I felt with Eden, this is one of my favorite series, ever. Like I said above, if I were to ever write a book, this is the kind I would want to write. I don't think there is a better compliment to give than that.

Beautiful Disaster

One of my favorite things about my Kindle are the recommendations Amazon gives me after I finish reading a book. That's how I stumbled upon Beautiful Disaster and the author Jamie McGuire, whom I love.

Beautiful Disaster is the story of Abby Abernathy. She's a college girl trying getaway from a wild upbringing. She sees college as a new start, but she meets Travis who is everything she wants and is trying to get away from. Oh Travis. He really is the bad boy we want, but would never be able to tame.

I've read this book 3 times. Yes, I'm aware of I have issues, but this book is that good. Its got the bad boy/good girl charm and you pull for the both of them to make it work. I have 3 negatives (that aren't really negatives) with this book.

1. He calls her Pigeon. At first, its like uh, ok, but then you love it. I honestly forgot Abby's name by chapter 3.  I wanted my husband to start calling me Pidge after reading this book, but I decided that I should stick with the nickname, Gisele Bundchen, since we're identical.

2. I wanted to beat Pidge/Abby. Seriously, hottest guy on campus is totally in love with you and you won't give in. Eat a donut, get over yourself, and go get laid.
*Sidenote. This is why I shouldn't write a book. I'm way too cynical for my own good.

3. He sings a Rolling Stones' song in the school cafeteria and you will have "I can't get no satisfaction" stuck in your the rest of the day. You're welcome.

Jamie McGuire has written a companion book named Walking Disaster to be released on 4/13/12. Its Travis' POV of Beautiful Disaster. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Same book, different POV...couldn't she just write a sequel? I won't judge until I read it in April. Until then, read this book. Its great and definitely one of my favorites. Universal Pictures has bought the rights to make this a movie, so you need to get ahead of the game and be prepared.

Ceaseless Preview

While I was writing my reviews last night on the Existence series, I found a trailer for the final book, Ceaseless. I've never seen one of these, but this is really cool.

I have really high hopes for this book. Abbi Glines really knows how to come through for her readers.

Release date is 9/18/12!

Enjoy!

Predestined

Keeping with the Existence Series from my previous post, this review is for the second book, Predestined.

I said in my very first post that I was going to be real honest about my reviews. So, here goes. This book is weird. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but as if Pagan dating Death wasn't enough, now we have voo doo all mixed in. By Voo Doo, I mean a witch doctor, a Voo Doo King and his son, a Voo Doo Prince.

Still with me? The book is worth the read, for sure. It just rolls out the story of Dank and Pagan and definitely sets up for the 3rd book. There's less Dank in this book, which stinks, but there are other characters who keep it interesting (signal voodoo people).

I have really high hopes for Ceaseless (releasing 9/18/12), so yes, you need to read this to get to that. No, its not torture. It really is a good book, just you know, voo doo'd.

Honorable Mention: Leif is a main character in the first 2 books and Abbi Glines released a book from his perspective. There will be another series coming out with Leif as the main character. This book, however, is not really a must read. Its really just a summary of the first two books from someone's else point of view. I wouldn't buy it, unless its .99 or you had a cool friend like me who would be willing to lend it to you. Here's the cover.

Here are the amazon links for Predestined and Leif. Stay with me, folks! I think Ceaseless is going to be really great!

Existence

My first review. This is nerve wracking and as I'm writing, I'm still trying to decide who the honor should go to.

Ok, I decided.

I feel like this series deserves a review now because the final installment is coming out Sept. 18, 2012. So, you have less than a month to get your act together, take my advice and read this series before that date.

The name of the book is Existence. Its the first book in Abbi Glines' Existence Trilogy.

I'm going to try and give this review without giving away anything, so bear with me.

This is the first book.

Sigh.

This book is by Abbi Glines and I can most definitely tell you, her name will be mentioned in this blog alot.

There's something about these characters that really sucked me in. The whole thing is a little cliche. He's Death, her name is Pagan...dark, much? But if you can get past the 'sixth sense' feel of this book, I think you'd really enjoy it.

Dank came to Pagan because he was coming to take her soul, however, he ends falling in love with her, so he saves her from himself (death). It unleashes a whole lot of issues because it was her time to go and he over rode that decision. Lots of drama unfolds and it sets up really well for the second book, Predestined.

I loved Dank in this book. For me, his character really carried the entire book. He's not too bad for a guy who sucks souls for living.

This is a YA book, so if you're looked for detailed, romance (wink, wink), this book doesn't have it. Regardless, the storyline and characters are so good that you really don't miss it. Trust me, peeps.

Here's the amazon link for the book. Download it soon!

Fair Warning

You're here, you made it! I'm so happy you've decided to take a little time out of your day to listen to this girl ramble on about a book. I'm humbled, really. I feel like going into this I should lay down some ground rules. So, here they are.

1. I am nothing but honest. I can't promise alot, but I can promise that on this blog I will give my unbiased, completely honest opinion of what I've read. We're not going to get anywhere with me sugar coating our way through.

2. I will not be judged by the books I read. Books are my get away. Not that my life sucks, but I don't read to better myself or expand my mind. I read because I love getting lost in a story. So, if you're looking for reviews on Gone with the Wind or Pride and Prejudice, you won't find it here.
